About the Brighton & Hove Calendar

Who is behind much loved and popular publication capturing the spirit of Brighton and Hove?

Well, the story started more than 20 years ago when a local photographer Nigel Swallow came up with the idea of producing calendar in order to support local and up and coming artists in his North Laine photography gallery. The calendar is based on open call meaning that anybody can submit his or her photography. All published artists are fully credited and paid. From this year on Nigel has passed the production to Art Hoc community interest company as he has got new ventures going on.

All the profits from the sale are put back into the local art scene. Art Hoc organises pop up galleries, exhibitions, workshops and art events. We give out small grants for local art projects.

Also, there is a regular monthly photo competition. If you have any nice pics capturing the spirit of Brighton and Hove don't hesitate and send it to us!

What people say about our calendar

I love the calendar, even though I don't live in Brighton any more, I go and get a calendar every year.

I was featured as ‘Sand Artist’ on one of the first Brighton & Hove calendars, and I’ve been a fan ever since. That’s my Naked Bike bottom on the backside of the 2019 calendar too!

The only calendar worth your hard-earned pennies...who'd be without it each year??
